wip it wednesday- granny's garden path edition

my gram taught me to crochet when i was about 8 or 10 years old...she started me out on the traditional granny square and i made a blanket out of one big square...i'm not sure if she knew any other stitches...she made all of her kids and grandkids a blanket for their bed with a matching pillow...my sister's and mine were pink and white...slightly different so we could tell them apart...with fringe...

throughout the years, i've taught myself many different stitches and learned to read patterns...but there's something about a granny square that keeps me coming back...i'm currently working on a pattern called 'grandma's garden path' designed by deanna krieg for herschner's...it's a great way to use up extra skeins or bits of yarn from other projects...but i designed mine around yarn that came to me as a gift...i'm not sure i would do a project of this size in hexagon blocks again...but it has taught me a great deal of patience and takes me back to my gram and her granny squares....

current wip

my current wip is a redo of the ripple i had to rip out :) it's easy for me to lose track of stitches when i get going so i am taking better care to pay attention so this one doesn't end up looking like a skirt...i generally have about a half dozen or so projects going at any one time because different days and moods call for different patterns...i love cooler weather because it really gets me in the mood to snuggle in with a good dvd, some tea and the cat...and crochet :)

wip it wednesday

i have been spending quite a bit of time researching, planning and plotting my course this last month...you will be glad to know that today....today it is not raining...it is not muggy...it is a bit chilly but temps will be up into the 70s this week...it's a freakin' heat wave :) that's not to say i am not still working on my projects...i have several in the works....

this particular project is my long term project :) it's several layers of individual hex 'squares' sewn together...had i known that i would need so many- i probably would have used a larger sized hook than the one called for in the pattern...i have about 30 more purple hexes to do and then 250 cream ones to tie it all together...this is going to be a massive throw...may even be twin sized by the time i'm done...

here it is- grandma's garden path....

wip it wednesday

i have been spending much of my rainy days plotting and planning new projects while whittling away at the ones already in process...i have also been sorting through finished projects for pricing and getting ready for the

suny broome handcrafted market sponsored by the women's institute- in july...haven't been confirmed as a vendor yet- but i'm optimistic :)

also, looking ahead to possibly being a vendor for the broome county regional farmer's market...but i want to work on some smaller projects for display and sale...lots of decisions and oooooohhhh....buying more yarn ;)

had to get my sales tax certification and if i intend to be a vendor at the farmer's market- the insurance requirement....we'll see about that in the future....i think i want to try some holiday ornaments and decorations and also- baby shower cakes...

have also been fighting with getting the pool cleaned and filled for the season- although the rain has helped with that...the weeds, however, are out of control....such is life...no pictures this week because my handwriting is mess ;) but i have a notebook full of ideas and i'm sorting yarn into piles again...so...onward and upward....

wip it wednesday (belated edition)

yesterday was a nice day...today it's damp and rainy and dreary...i have to try and do yard work in between raindrops- hence wip it thursday this week ;) i wanted to have a granny square pattern to work on and picked this one from an older book of patterns i have...the pattern called for traditional 'country style' colors of rose and light blue and green....i wanted to make it a bit edgier :) blue is my favorite color and i wanted it to pop- so i picked black edging instead of cream...i'm hoping it will rock when i get it all put together...may be awhile as these are the only squares i've finished so far...stay tuned.....

wip it wednesday

i haven't tried a ripple stitch for awhile and this particular design reminds me of a cappuccino with the coffee color on bottom followed by the cream and then the 'whipped cream'....ripple stitch throws and afghans are challenging because i have to remember where i am in the pattern ;) there are increases and decreases and as long as i know where i am- i won't get an up where there's supposed to be a down :) cappuccino.....

wip it wednesday

i usually have multiple projects going at once... i get bored doing the same stitch over and over...whichever way my mood takes me determines which project i pick up...the project i am highlighting today will eventually turn out to be a throw or afghan (depending on the end size) and i am enjoying the colors- primary red, yellow, green and orange with a background of retro brown :) and the piece de resistance will be tassels... i have never done tassels on a project...
